Division for Operations

The Division for Operations (DO) is one of four divisions of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). It is headed by a Director who reports to the Executive Director. The Division consists of two Branches:

  • The Human Security Branch (HSB) provides advice and support to Member States and intergovernmental bodies, focusing in particular on the human impact of drug and crime problems, as well as technical services to enhance the substantive quality of operational activities. The HSB provides reports and servicing to the General Assembly (GA), the Economic and Social Council  (ECOSOC), the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND),  the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) and  the UN Congresses related to substantive issues.
  • The Partnership in Development Branch manages UNODC's technical cooperation programme related to drug abuse, illicit drug production and trafficking, human trafficking and other forms of transnational organized crime, money-laundering and corruption.

The objectives of the Division for Operations are:

  1. to promote knowledge-based expertise in the context of sustainable development and human security;
  2. to facilitate the development by Governments of effective counter-measures against drug abuse, illicit drug production and trafficking, human trafficking and other forms of transnational organised crime, money-laundering and corruption.
