The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute

The Congress recognized the importance of research and training in the field of crime, including the launching of regional and interregional initiatives. As a follow-up to the actions of the Third Congress, the United Nations Social Defence Research Institute was established in 1968 in Rome. In 1989, the Economic and Social Council formally recognised the expansion of UNSDRI into the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI).
